- README.DOC for XTRIS (C) 1997 Xtreme Games LLC
-
- This file contains the instructions and goal of XTRIS.
-
-
- OVERVIEW
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- XTRIS is a DirectX 5.0 game made to show off the abilities of DirectX.
- XTRIS is a game of geometrical skill, the basic idea is to create a line
- of solid blocks. This is accomplished by placing blocks in such a way that
- they fit together tightly. When the game begins you will see a "U-Shaped"
- game field. Then a randomly selected shape will appear at the top of the
- screen. The idea is to navigate the shape down to the bottom of the
- playfield so that is fits as tightly and and as "low" as possible to the
- bottom. When you create a solid horizontal line, then the line(s)will
- disintegrate and you will get points and more space to play in.
-
- The goal of the game is to get as many lines as possible without dying.
- The game will end if the shapes pile up too high and hit the top of the
- screen.
-
- Now there are 2 ways to place XTRIS:
-
- 1. Classic - This mode mimics the original Tetris.
- 2. Xtreme Geometry - This mode has new geometrical pieces,
- but you must register.
-
- * Also, you can change the playfield to 5 different geometries,
- 16 with the registered version.
-
-
- MAIN MENU
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The main menu allows you to change the following:
-
- * Playfield Type (1-5)
- * Game Type (1-2)
- * Skill Level (10)
- * Music & Sound Volume (0-100)
-
- To navigate the MAIN MENU use the <UP> and <DOWN> arrows. To change a
- selection, use the <RIGHT> and <LEFT>
-
- To begin play, navigate the cursor to "NEW GAME" and hit <ENTER>.
- If at any time during the game, you wish to return to the menu
- press <ESC>.
-
-
- GAME PLAY
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The shape is controlled with the following keys:
-
- * Keyboard
-
- <A> - Rotate shape counter clockwise.
- <S> - Rotate shape clockwise.
- <RIGHT ARROW> - Move shape right.
- <LEFT ARROW> - Move shape left.
- <UP ARROW> - Slow descent.
- <DOWN ARROW> - Speed descent.
- <P> - Pause game toggle.
- <ESC> - Return to menu.
-
- * Joystick/Joypad
-
- XTRIS works with all types of input devices, but you must have at least two
- buttons.
-
- The yoke or control pad moves the shape left, right, and controls descent
- while the two buttons rotate the shape. If you have 4 buttons then they
- control the pause and escape back to the menu.
-
- HINTS
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Once you have decided where to put the current piece take a look at the
- next shape and think ahead of where to put it.
-
- Don't be greedy! Try and make as many lines as possible, as quick as
- possible, don't wait for the big kill, it may kill you!
-
- Don't panic when the blocks fall quickly, you can slow them a bit by
- pressing <UP>.
-
- Don't Blink :)
-
- TROUBLESHOOTING
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Currently, there are no known bugs in the game. However, you must have
- at least a VGA card. In addition, you must have DirectX 5.0 or better
- installed on your system. The game will work with 3.0, but it is
- unstable. You can retrieve DirectX 5.0 from Microsoft's web site:
